The Saints Row series became a successful, terrific bunch of video games, with Saints Row III and Saints Row IV especially pushing the open world genre well into often chaotic limits. How can we ever forget the purple dildo baseball bat, for instance? The fourth chapter of the series launched a few years ago on last gen consoles, and was reissued last year for the modern era along with a Gat Out of Hell expansion.
It’s been over a year since we heard any more peeps from developers Volition, but that silence has now been broken. The studio has revealed that it is working on Agents of Mayhem, a brand new game set in a brand new universe — but with the same type of anarchy that we’ve come to expect (and hope) from the company.
Agents of Mayhem puts players in the role of a team of three members of M.A.Y.H.E.M. — the Multinational Agency for Hunting Evil Masterminds — as they’re tasked with taking down super villain group L.E.G.I.O.N. (the League of Gentlemen Intent on Obliterating Nations).
The characters are superheroes, and as such will have some incredible powers and abilities; where the Saints Row series dabbled in the idea, Mayhem will go all in on the wonderful pandemonium that can come from physics-bending.
The game takes place across Seoul, Korea with players having the ability to choose from 12 different “agents” to take on the enemies. While there is a connection to the Saints Row series potentially hinted at in the trailer, it’s unknown if there actually is anything more than a thematic tie.
Agents of Mayhem is arriving in early 2017 for PC (and probably consoles). More will be revealed at E3 2016 next week.
