Well hello there! With Splatoon‘s one-year anniversary fast approaching, and the game still maintaining a solid player base, Nintendo has been consistently pushing out updates and hosting Splatfests along the way. It was rumored to be stopping earlier this year, but that may not be happening just yet.
The amiibo functionality within the game has been one of the more interesting utilizations of the technology, unlocking alternate versions of the game’s single-player levels that lead to clothing and weapon bonuses once completed.
It looks like we’re about to get more, as the company has just announced that two of the more popular characters in the game, Callie and Marie — the Squid Sisters, will be receiving their own interactive figurines.
In this case, the figures won’t distribute new levels or costumes, but instead will unlock songs/music videos. The Squid Sisters are the musical act within the game’s world, providing song and dance (and news) between matches and in the hub world. It seems like a natural fit to have the figures provide more of what the characters specialize in.
But the Sisters aren’t the only new figures coming. Nintendo will also provide updated color variations for Squid Boy and Squid Girl, as well as the general squid figure.
All of these will be available July 8th at retailers. Here’s hoping we also eventually get Octolings as well.
