Square Enix announces KingsGlaive feature-length Final Fantasy XV movie, coming 2016

In a surprise announcement, Square Enix revealed that a film set in the world of Final Fantasy XV will be launching later this year. KingsGlaive takes place during the events of the game, but focuses on the world’s King Regis and his battle for the throne. Much like previous Final Fantasy games, crystals are an important part of the lore. King Regis has the last remaining crystal (blue), and the Empire — there’s always an empire! — is trying to take it from him.

The film will feature the voice talents of several stars. Lena Headey (Cersei on Game of Thrones) will voice Luna. Fellow Game of Thrones actor Sean “I Die Every Film” Bean will take on the role of King Regis. In other words, we can expect the King to die, probably. Finally, Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul was revealed to be lending his vocal chords to Nyx, a sort of elite warrior in the King’s guard.

KingsGlaive is due later this year, presumably prior to the game’s launch. It will be a pack-in for the Collector’s Edition of the game. Square Enix is banking on the expanded universe for the game, also revealing a prequel anime that leads up to it.
