The 50th Super Bowl has come and gone. The annual advertising event brought with it many surprises, exciting news, and hella amazing trailers. This year, the comic book and sci-fi based films took center stage, bringing us some incredibly awesome trailers for films coming later this year. It shows us that the need for spectacle is alive and well, and thanks to a pivotal election season and crazy event around the world, perhaps we require escapism like never before.
Also football.
But really, here are the trailers.
Independence Day: Resurgence brings us more aliens but less Will Smith. Contracts are expensive.
Say what you will about the last Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, the sequel (titled Out of the Shadows) brings us Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady. They’re the early 90’s cartoon/Archie Comics versions of the characters, too, not the ultra-realistic mumbo jumbo that’s appeared since. And Casey Jones!
Captain America: Civil War looks so bae, you guys! Seriously, Marvel’s opus of the first few phases of its cinematic universe look to come to an apex in this film. This is secretly Avengers 3, basically, and we’re happy about it. Black Panther, Ant Man, Scarlet Witch, and though we didn’t get a tease, we know that Spider-Man is in it (somehow)!
Marvel was on point this year, as the X-verse showed us TWO amazing spots. First, for Deadpool, which we’ll all be seeing this week:
And second, for the HYPE X-Men: Apocalypse. WOW!
10 Cloverfield Lane arrives on March 11, and except for knowing that it’s in the same universe (sequel to) as Cloverfield, we know nothing about it. Monsters, probably?
Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne in Jason Bourne. That movie title is on point!
DC brought an interesting take on their upcoming Batman v Superman film. Partnering with Turkish Airlines, they created a sort of dueling travel video ads for the airline. Have a look at Metropolis:
