The 2015 Game Awards came and went, and with it the usual slight controversy over which video game deserves which award over its competition. In the end it doesn’t really matter — these are just little trophies and there are a thousand awards shows throughout the year. But, they do instill a little sense of pride to the teams that develop them, and having the ability to throw a sticker on a piece of box art that has “Game of the Year” on it could eke out a few more sales to those who never picked up the games.
The Game Awards aren’t the only place to win prestigious recognition, but they have morphed into a must-attend industry and fan event, almost like a very mini E3. This year’s show was more compact than in the past, coming in at just around two hours or so and filled with music, special tributes, world premieres and oh yeah, awards. Let’s get to those, shall we?
It’s important to note that the awards were selected in two groups: via Jury and via fan-voting. Winners below are in bold. CD Projekt Red’s epic Witcher 3 took two awards, including Game of the Year, and the studio themselves nabbed one. Nintendo’s quirky shooter Splatoon, Rocket League and Metal Gear Solid V each followed with two.
