At the most recent Apple event this week, the company spent some time debuting their next generation Apple TV product — and everyone found out that you can finally do gaming on it! How great that gaming will be is far from determined; I do not see myself gaming on the Apple TV with a controller that it is really similar to another product made by Nintendo but smaller.
Have no fear, SteelSeries have that issue solved with the SteelSeries Nimbus!
This more traditional modern gaming controller looks to be on par with at least the previous generation of consoles’ input methods. Some of the features that the SteelSeries Nimbus will have include:
- Rechargeable battery with 40+ hours of life
- Lightning connector for rapid charging
- Menu button for navigation
- Pressure sensitive buttons
Ehtisham Rabanni, SteelSeries CEO, stated the following in the press release for the product:
We’ve been working with the Apple team for more than a year now on the design and development of the Nimbus controller. This is a truly unique product – it’s the first of its kind with the Apple home button and lightning connector – features that simply do not exist on product that are not solely created by Apple. We believe in the new ecosystem and in bringing a new generation of family gaming to the living room.
When I watched the Apple TV presentation and they were using their own new controller to play the games, I was thinking to myself that the tiny size of the device would deter me from using it. I was afraid I would break it.
At least now that SteelSeries is making this controller, that fear goes away and the Apple users in my family can enjoy gaming without having to worry about the tiny input.
The SteelSeries Nimbus will be available in late October with a $49.99 price tag.
