LEGO Dimensions is a multiverse. Yes, much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC movie universe and anything Michael Bay says he’s doing with Transformers/G.I. Joe, the latest LEGO game will present itself with much of the same flavor. At least it’s all in one package! (Sort of.)

The latest trailer for the game shows off what this multiverse is: an interlinked series of “Adventure Worlds” that players can gain access to by simply dropping in a figure from said world. That’s it. No expansion package to buy a la Disney Infinity or Skylanders, no DLC to order; just drop a Back to the Future or Jurassic World figure onto the Gate and you’re all in. Think of this as like getting mini-worlds/levels in the game that are open for exploration. Otherwise it’d probably be hard to stick with just one world that mixed in all of the characters, no? This method will keep in line the idea of traversal from realm to realm that Dimensions is based upon.
But is that the big news? No no no. It’s not. Joining the already established huge cast of characters is the Ghostbusters IP! Slimer, Peter Venkman and even the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man arrive and are playable in the game, along with the Ecto-1 and various weapons. We’ve been waiting for more Ghostbuster gaming goodness, and with the new movie coming our interest is hyping to high levels.
How LEGO has managed to rope in all of the property holders and have this much fun we’ll never know — but we’re not complaining!
