Microsoft opened Gamescom with big details about Quantum Break, the upcoming new game from Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment.
Quantum Break tells the story of a world in which time is falling apart, skipping and pausing as we get caught in loops. Protagonist Jack utilizes this to his advantage, positioning to attack or disarm enemies as time slows down. In the on-stage gameplay we see Jack searching for the disappearance of his brother as he explores time around him. During flashbacks he discovers the origins of time travel, even glimpsing the first time machines that set off the destruction of time.
The trailer itself shows off a lot of the “gray” color aesthetic that Remedy is known for in games like Alan Wake. As noted earlier, the game will mix gameplay and live action. Creative Director Sam Lake brought Jack actor Shawn Ashmore on stage to discuss how the game will merge the two: notably, the game action will focus on heroes while the in-game show (possibly affected by our actions?) will focus on the enemies.
Quantum Break will arrive on Xbox One on April 5th, 2016.
