Gamescom: Forza 6 shows us what rain is all about, bringing leagues along with it

We’re finally be getting a few features in Forza 6 that we’ve been asking for.

At their Gamescom 2015 press conference today, Microsoft and Turn 10 further dove into the rain (get it?!) that will be making its debut in the next Forza game. The studio did extensive research on not only the effects of rain on tires, but also how the rain actually affects the road below it. By viewing uncountable hours of race footage, visiting the tracks and driving them themselves, they’ve accurately mapped where puddles fall on the tracks, where they pool, and even how deep they can become.

Yes, these are “physically-based 3D puddles.” In glorious 1080p 60fps visuals.

The game will include 148 unique drivable surfaces — gravel, grass, asphalt and more — each with their own specific physics, that will not only make daytime driving interesting but weather- and night-driving as well. All of these road types will appear in the updated career and ranked modes.

Ranked leagues will arrive, featuring divisions based on the player’s speed and “professionalism” in their racing habits. This should help extend the multiplayer experience from more than just races to something that will be a persistent experience, possibly pushing competition to high levels in the more advanced leagues.

Forza 6 will launch on September 15 with 450 cars, all with fully designed cockpits and damage. Perfect for losing control when racing in the rain.
