Coming off of my love for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, I was excited to see Assassin’s Creed Unity at E3. Then in July, it had me with the amazing setting of French Revolution Paris (possibly because of my love for the works of Jacques-Louis David). And again in September, primed during my growing Destiny team play obsession, its co-op excited me.
It was pretty, it was Next Gen, and I could play WITH friends as opposed to just against them. But something was still missing. Something needed to tie it all together.
Finally, as the game approaches launch, we have that something. Ubisoft graces us with the full Assassin’s Creed Unity story trailer, and it has me hyyyyyped.
Assassin’s Creed Unity doesn’t seem so much a typical Creed game as it does as super hero origin story. The trailer focuses on Arno, the main protagonist, and his fall and rebirth. It’s Batman, set in 1700’s France. We have scenes of murdered parents, of a man trained by a secret organization, of a dark hero posing on the corner of a building overlooking his city. This is the original Dark Knight.
But I’m okay with that. I enjoy period pieces (even The Man in the Iron Mask) that deal with these kinds of “revenge” stories. It’s a bit cliche, possibly, but only because we see it in movies. This is the first time I’ll be playing something like this in a game. This will be my first shot at this kind of vengeance, and I can’t help but be excited for it.
Assassin’s Creed Unity arrives November 11, along with plenty of revenge-filled baggage.
