Microsoft announces Kinect-less Xbox One for $399

Preorder the Xbox One

E3 is still one month away, but the first megaton has already dropped. Microsoft has just revealed a plan to sell its Xbox One without the Kinect 2.0 sensor.

Yes, the device that the Xbox One was built around no longer needs it. The Great Experiment is over. Motion controls are dead. We can continue with our lives.

Alright, a little extreme, but it’s not like we didn’t see this coming. The device is selling fine, though it’s still well behind the Playstation 4. Retailing at $399, the version will arrive on June 9. It’s even available now to preorder from Amazon*.

But, the big question is this: What does this mean for the Kinect requirements that Microsoft plugged into the device? What about games like Fantasia or Kinect Fitness or voice control? This has huge ramifications.

Here we go.
