And here we go. DC Comics have finally confirmed, through an exclusive with The Wall Street Journal, that the next movie after the tentatively titled “Batman vs Superman” will be based on The Justice League. The J-League is DC’s super squad, akin to Marvel’s Avengers, and is made up of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, the Flash, and other. Several of those (Wonder Woman and Cyborg) are confirmed to make their appearances in “Batman vs Superman”. The company also announced that other DC-based films will begin work soon, based on properties “100 Bullets”, “Fables”, “Metal Men” and “Shazam”.
By announcing the films the company hopes to begin its own push at a cinematic universe to catch up to Marvel’s already wildly popular one, which features Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the forthcoming Ant Man and Guardians of the Galaxy films.
Catching up is going to be tough, as DC certainly has some challenges ahead of it. Will there be crossovers with the plethora of DC shows already on airwaves — namely, Arrow and the upcoming Gotham? Will there be confusion? Can they stand up to the Marvel/Disney onslaught that now include Star Wars and several Netflix shows?
