What’s old is new again, yet what is new here does not feel old. The Jedi Mind Trick Nintendo pulled off with this classically inspired yet completely fresh take on Zelda earns The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds the number 4 spot on Sidequesting’s top 10 games of 2013.
This game feels like Eiji Aonuma and team took one large cleansing, zenful breath before developing the latest entry. Inhaling all the good and exhaling all the bad.
For one, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has to be one of the best paced Zelda entries in a long while. Another is the visual design. While many suggest Nintendo isn’t focused on making “3D” enjoyable to look at any more, I would simply direct all eyeballs to this title, as it has to incorporate some of the best 3D effects on the system to date. The core change in how item inventory is managed really allows players to dive right into the meat and potatoes of what makes these games so fun.
Throw in some epic boss battles and puzzles that are beyond clever, and you have a modern day Zelda classic.
