Grand Theft Auto V available to pre-load on Monday for US, Sunday for Europe on PSN

UPDATE: Rockstar has tweeted that the US will, in fact, have the ability to pre-load Grand Theft Auto V on the PSN, and those who’ve pre-ordered can do so on Monday at 3am EST. Europe will get to pre-load a day earlier than originally thought, now on Sunday at 3pm BST.

ORIGINAL STORY: Sony has made a good effort at encouraging PlayStation users to purchase Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto V on PSN, where buyers will additionally receive a special PS3 theme and 75% off any Rockstar title. Buyers will also receive the in-game Atomic Blimp vehicle, a perk also found in pre-orders of the physical copy. However, a new deterrent for those considering a purchase in the PlayStation Store has arisen from a recent confirmation that the ability to pre-load the game before its September 17th release is something US gamers will not have. A Rockstar representative informed Joystiq that it was “not our call.”

European players are still in for the treat of pre-loading, but now it appears to be less sweet than before. Initially, Europeans would be able to pre-load GTAV starting today, but that has now been pushed back to Monday, September 16th.

Joystiq speculates that the recent leakage of the game’s soundtrack and plot details, an event that Sony blamed itself for as the leaked info came from a pre-order file within their own digital store, may be what sparked the delay of the pre-load in Europe. One should note that it may just be the midnight-launch attendees that will have it the worst, as numerous reports of face-breaking due to stampedes seem to be in our midst.
