The term “gameplay” has become quite the stretched word lately, at least when it comes to snazzy video teasers from publishers hawking us their upcoming blockbusters. The latest, courtesy of Warner’s upcoming Mad Max game, is labeled as the “gameplay reveal”… yet, you may need to squint to see it. It’s in there all right, but thanks to camera angles, removal of any HUD or visual information, or traditional viewpoints, we’re not sure just what parts of what we’re seeing is actual gameplay or just a trailer made from in-engine assets.
There are hot classic cars (the Falcon is faithfully there) and film-style fist fights, and the visual design is spot on with what makes Max so great. Heck, the fidelity in the dust clouds alone is pretty freaking cool. I know I’m super excited for the game.
But as to actual gameplay… let’s not hold our breaths that what we see in the trailer is actually how we’ll be playing this thing next year.
