[Update: Sony released this veritable smackdown of a video demonstrating the “process” of how to share games on the PS4.]
Sony’s Jack Tretton announced, to standing applause, that the PS4 will not have any restrictions on used games, contrary to Microsoft’s policies for the Xbox One.
Tretton said that when consumers purchase a PS4 game they have the right to ” trade in the game at retail, sell it to another person, lend it to a friend, or keep it forever.”
Additionally, Tretton said that PS4 disc-based games don’t need to be connected online to play, and will not require a periodic online check-in, and it won’t stop working if you haven’t been online in 24 hours. However, a paid membership with PlayStation Plus will be required to access online parts of games, particularly multiplayer.
