Activision and Square Enix restructurings have cost several employees their jobs today.
Square Enix Los Angeles, recently involved with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, has laid off an unconfirmed amount of employees, described to multiple outlets as a “number of positions,” and to Polygon from an anonymous source as cuts from employees “top to bottom.”
Activision has laid off “approximately” 40 global employees, which Kotaku believes to be mostly from Deadpool developer High Moon Studios.
“With the completion of development on Deadpool,” Activision told Kotaku, “we are taking a reduction in staff at High Moon Studios to better align our development talent against our slate.”
Square Enix will provide affected employees with severance packages and other assistance, and Activision will offer outplacement counseling services.
In March, Square Enix announced it will be restructuring in the wake of a poor fiscal year ending March 31, 2013, leading to the resignation of CEO Yoichi Wada.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is currently in beta and is expected to launch this year.
Deadpool currently has a summer 2013 release window for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
