If you haven’t played Disruptor Beam’s wildly popular Game of Thrones Ascent yet, you’ll have a few more chances to get on board. The game, which first entered open beta in February on Facebook, pits players against one another in Westeros, the mythical land of A Song of Ice and Fire (and that HBO show). Disruptor Beam has just signed on with Zynga to bring the game to multiple platforms, starting with an increased presence on the social network and soon Zynga.com.
In a joint statement released today, Disruptor Beam’s Jon Radoff and Zynga’s Rob Dyer spoke to their excitement in bringing the popular game to more players around the world. Citing the already half a million people enjoying the game on Mark Zuckerberg’s network the companies hope that by expanding the locations that the game can be played the audience will expand as well.
What could all of this mean? Well, you may already know a few people who play the best Game of Thrones game yet, a title which Ascent easily ripped from the clutches of last year’s RPG. We’re sure with Zynga on board the company will be able to find ways to capitalize on the strengths of the Facebook platform, as the team will assist Disruptor Beam where necessary. No other details were made available at press, but this may be the first time I won’t be upset to see an app spam my wall.
“House Stark needs support against House Greyjoy. Please join them!” I think I can live with seeing that often.
Here’s hoping for the game to make it to iOS devices. I could see myself taking longer “breaks” at the office.
