Today, during this year’s EVE Online Fanfest, the game’s developer announced plans to produce a TV series based on the science fiction MMO, citing AMC’s Breaking Bad as well as HBO’s Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.
Hilmar Veigar, CEO of CCP, went onstage to describe the series to fans, calling it true stories from “20,000 years in the future.” The tagline is a reference to show’s plot, which will supposedly dramatize actual, player-driven events from within EVE Online.
The developer has tapped local Icelandic talent Baltasar Kormákur, who was unable to attend the festival because he was on location in Hungary shooting a pilot for HBO’s The Missionary. Kormákur also recently directed the Denzel Washington/Mark Wahlberg feature, 2 Guns, which CCP showed off during the announcement.
While the developer did say that they had already begun work on the show, no actual screenshots or footage were shown. Veigar did, however, encourage players to send in their personal stories from within the game sometime before the end of May, implying that the show might still be a ways out.
