Similar to the model Markus Persson used while he developed Minecraft, Steam Early Access, launched today, allows users to play games in an unfinished state.
Steam users will be encouraged to discuss, provide feedback, and test the games that support Early Access. Valve will be largely hands-off, only choosing what games are available, according to the information page. It will be up to the developers to explain details like release dates, prices, and content update schedules on the game’s store page.
Many of the first 12 Early Access games charge a reduced price that will gradually increase until the game is released.
The first batch of Early Access games are:
- 1… 2… 3… KICK IT! (Drop That Beat Like an Ugly Baby)
- Arma 3
- Drunken Robot Pornography
- Gear Up
- Gnomoria
- Kenshi
- Kerbal Space Program
- Kinetic Void
- Patterns
- Prison Architect
- StarForge
- Under the Ocean
