EA Develops Cross-Platform Identities
Gamesbeat’s Dean Takahashi reported Wednesday that EA completed development on a system allowing players to use one identity across different platforms. Rajat Taneja, EA’s chief technology officer, explained that the new system would allow EA to follow gamers who purchase an EA game across the Xbox 360, to the PS3, to the PC, and so on. Most of what Taneja explained sounds beneficial for EA, things like making it quicker and easier to customize advertisements and reduce data costs, but there are benefits for consumers, Taneja promised. The two biggest features are the ability to start a game on one platform then pick up where they left off on another. That’s in addition to “appointment gaming,” which allows players to contact friends across platforms and setup multiplayer sessions. Given the reluctance of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo to ever allow that kind of cross-console play before, I find it a bit of a dubious proposition that EA can pull this off. Especially since Gamesbeat’s article mentions this will only work, “so long as the game permits that kind of play.” The question seems to be, will any actually allow that?

Don’t Forget Remember Me‘s June 4 Release Date
Capcom’s cyberpunk action-adventure Remember Me had its June 4 release date announced Wednesday. The announcement came with a snazzy new trailer, giving us a basic rundown of player character Nilin’s fight through 2084 Neo-Paris to reclaim her lost memories. The world looks very cool, a classic Gibsonian dystopia with towering skyscrapers of technology above slums, while everyone bandies about cool gadgets and implants.

Square Enix Trademarks Deus Ex: Human Defiance
Speaking of cyberpunks, CVG noticed that Square Enix filed for a trademark on Deus Ex: Human Defiance on Tuesday. It’s been about two years since Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and given that CBS announced they’d be making a film adaptation of that game, the time feels ripe to announce a new entry. When contacted by Joystiq, however, Square Enix responded that they don’t comment on rumor and speculation. Of course, that’s just about every company’s response to things like this, but considering the proximity of both E3 and a new generation of consoles, I’d say it’s safe speculation that we’ll hear more about Human Defiance soon.
