Double Fine Productions’ rock romp rolls onto Steam after a four-year hiatus.
Multiple media outlets are reporting a Feb. 26 release, but as of this writing, I couldn’t confirm the date. Update: Double Fine community manager Chris Remo said Double Fine is “targeting the 26th of this month,” in a post on NeoGAF.
Electronic Arts published Brutal Legend on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2009, and in less than two weeks, Double Fine will self-publish the PC version. It’s unclear how it acquired publishing rights to the game.
The game is available for pre-order on Steam at a discounted price of $14.99, and it will return to $19.99 on release day. Those who pre-order the game will gain access to a multiplayer beta, and two Team Fortress 2 items. The multiplayer beta is playable today, and the Team Fortress 2 items will be available “Thursday afternoon,” according to the Steam page.
Both previously released DLC packs will be included in the PC release.
Players can opt to purchase the soundtrack with the game for $18.74 ($24.99 on release day), or separately for $7.99.
I’ve contacted Double Fine about the rights to publish the game on PC, and whether or not the game’s list of licensed songs affected the release.
