More purported Xbox ‘Durango’ specs leaking
With the next gen Xbox, codenamed ‘Durango’, firmly in the hands of developers there are now almost daily cases of specification leaks occurring. The latest comes via VGLeaks, who have rounded up a mountain of specs into a sheet that would make even a modern a PC whimper. Here are the nuts and bolts of what they’ve found:
- 8GB RAM
- 8 cores
- 1.6 GHz
- x64 architecture
- BluRay drive
- USB 3.0
- Always-on Natural User Interface — think some sort of Kinect “lite”
None of this is REALLY all that new, but the technical aspects of the device are now pretty solidified. It should be a mammoth. Let’s just hope it’s not an expensive mammoth.

Kaz Hirai says PS4 information might wait
With the next Xbox coming more into clarity each day, and with Sony’s gaming division not living up to par at the moment, the pressure is on them to be prepared and roaring out of the gates with the PS4. It seems a little odd, then, that Sony’s “last to market” mentality seems to continue. The latest news of note comes from CEO Kaz Hirai in an interview with The Times. When asked about the current console cycle and when we might hear about the next Playstation, Hirai replied with “why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?”
Here’s our reply to that, broken down in a bullet points:
- The next gen console specs have been pretty solid for almost a year now, and won’t change much before launch, which means that
- Going first does indeed matter. Getting the console information out there, so that it begins hyping consumers, and being first to launch are going to be uber important.
- Sony has a few key PS3 games coming the first half of this year and doesn’t want to overshadow those with new console news, so if Microsoft does indeed go first then Sony has E3 all to itself. But that may be too late.
- Hirai is just treading water right now. Sony already have a date in mind for the console reveal, regardless of when Microsoft has their plans in place or not.
In essence, don’t read too much into what Hirai is saying right now; these next 5 months are going to be a doozy.

Project X Zone confirmed for US, Europe
This one came out of left field: Project X Zone, the strategy RPG that combines characters from Capcom, Bandai Namco, and SEGA, and graced the 3DS last year in Japan, is coming to America. Yes friends, with this latest news, and even the confirmation of Pandora’s Tower making the trek over, it seems like localization in the US is becoming the item du jour.
To be fair, I know little about this game, except that it was fairly well received and included some of the most famous characters in gaming (in Japan). It’s landing Stateside with a Japanese voice track and English subtitles, just like God intended.
