The NRA points fingers, video games targeted
Today, the NRA finally released a statement regarding the shooting at Sandy Hills Elementary School. And before I even start, I have no idea why I thought they were going to bring something new, fresh, and/or helpful to the table. On Wednesday, they announced that they were going to release a statement today and provide some thoughtful remarks regarding the shooting. I have no idea why I believed them.
It looks like they just offered the same tired garbage. The NRA’s Wayne LaPierre took to the microphone today and basically said we needed more guns and pointed fingers. Video games were one of the things they pointed their finger at, citing games like GTA and Mortal Kombat as the problem. Typical. I’m actually okay with the first bit. I’ve gone to and worked at three high schools. They’ve all had at least one armed police officer on site at all times, and I’ve always felt safe.
The part that I have a problem with is this refusal to take any type of responsibility for the massacre. In the wake of the event, I saw many discussions on my Twitter feed involving people in the gaming industry reflecting on violence in games and its influence on people. I won’t deny that we are violent in nature. And i wont’ deny that perhaps we should be a little concerned with how we decide to spend our spare time playing violent games (which is for a different post). But at least people in the industry are talking about it.
What annoys me is this complete refusal of the NRA to look in the mirror and say, “How exactly am I helping here? Is there something that I’m doing that’s wrong?” No such luck there. Typical.

Square Enix teases Final Fantasy V for iOS and the oncoming “Final Fantasy Mobile Revolution”
The recent trailer for Final Fantasy IV on iOS teases Final Fantasy V for iOS. This is great news for fans of the franchise’s “SNES days.” As a new iPhone owner and fan of IV and V, I’m pretty stoked. Though, I’m expecting some pretty hefty pricing here.

THQ owes the WWE $45 Million
A few days ago, THQ filed for bankruptcy. One thing that just came out today is that it turns out that they owed the WWE $45 million. In a statement released by the WWE, on top of stating the act that they are owed that much money, they’ve also stated that it shouldn’t affect how things are running on a day-to-day basis.
Either way, do you think Vince McMahon is happy or angry about this?
(I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that he’s a little peeved.)
