Telecommute to E3 2011: Most of the Fun, None of the Travel

It’s that time of year again; people from around the world pack their bags and head West to the City of Angels to see the future of the gaming world that we all love. There are a few hurdles that need to be cleared to attend E3, such as qualifying for a pass, cost and time; plus, someone has to stay back and hold the fort. (Not that I’m bitter.)

Being left behind to man the base doesn’t mean that you can’t attend E3, virtually that is. With the advent of high speed Internet, smart devices and need for constant up-to-date information there are dozens of ways to get as close to the action as possible, without leaving the comfort of your favorite comfy easy chair.

Konami Pre-E3 Show
The Konami Pre-E3 Show is set to stream online June 2 at 7 p.m. CST as well as in a few select theaters across the Americas.

Microsoft Briefing
Microsoft will be live streaming their event from USC’s Galen Center June 6 at 12:30 p.m. EDT/11:30 a.m. CDT/9:30 a.m. PDT. The easiest way to watch the briefing is on Spike TV commercial-free. Exclusive content will be found there afterwards.  If you won’t be near a TV or don’t have cable, the event can be viewed live at Xbox.com/e3, Facebook.com, MTV.com and Spike.com. No computer? No problem. Microsoft will also have a mobile feed, xbox.mobi/e3, to view the stream on your smart phone. Source: Major Nelson

Ubisoft Press Conference
Not to be left out, Ubisoft will also be streaming their show conference live at their Uplay website and on YouTube June 6 at 4:30 p.m. CDT. Ubisoft will also be providing interviews, trailers and booth tours on their YouTube page.

Sony Briefing
Sony is stepping up their game this year as well. Not only will they be live streaming their briefing June 6 at 7 p.m. CDT on the web, but they will also be streaming the event to a theater in PlayStation Home. They have also created a virtual E3 booth within Home that will launch June 7 at 2 p.m. CDT as well as conduct live demonstrations from the show floor. Source: PlayStation.Blog

Nintendo Briefing
Nintendo will also be streaming their briefing live from Los Angeles on the web June 7 at 11 a.m CDT. Their briefing will be followed by updates from the show. Source: Nintendo

Game Trailers
Game Trailers is always a great source for show floor coverage and high resolution game trailers throughout the entire expo. For complete show coverage head over to the E3 section of the site.  They’ll have live streaming of the show floor all three days.

Twitter
The tweets are sure to be flowing freely around the clock next week and keeping an eye on hash tags like #E32011 will be a great way to keep your finger on the pulse of the expo. Other helpful Twitter accounts include: @E3expo, @MajorNelson, @PlayStation, @NintendoAmerica, @Ubisoft, @Konami and @OneOfSwords.

While this isn’t a perfect substitute for attending the expo, just think of all of the extra games, beer and cheesy poofs you’ll be able to afford with the money you save by staying home this year. We will continue to update this post as more information becomes available as well as host some viewing parties in the SideQuesting chat room for all of us attending remotely.
