I really shouldn’t have named yesterday’s Evening Report the “Portal Boners” edition, as this boner I have for that game is going to continue throughout the week until it is released. Thankfully, there was a lot of news to pore over so you guys can get the important stories. Portal 2 is once again in the news, this time in the way of details on the Steam interface for the PS3.
Other stories after the jump are a Star Fox 64 3D release date, a Garry’s Mod security feature, lies about Angry Birds and more!
Lockout be damned! That is what Peter Moore of of EA Sports said yesterday at the EA Sports “Season Opener”. Madden NFL 12 will be released this year, however, it will be coming slightly later than usual. Instead of hitting at the beginning of August, it will be coming at the end, on the 30th. Being an every-other-year Madden buyer (and this being my year), I hope the lockout doesn’t hamper EA in releasing a great followup to the 2010 iteration of the game.

We reported on Monday that Angry Birds was the best selling game on PSN. It turns out that Lazard Capital Markets lied. Angry Birds is not the best selling game of all time, only for the first two months of 2011. Not that the PSN port was needed for this game to be worth gajillions of dollars.

Star Fox 64 3D has a release date in Japan. The game will be hitting July 14th for the 3DS. No date has been set for for the US release, but it coming by the end of the year is entirely possible. This announcement comes out of nowhere as no significant details have emerged for the title since E3 2010. With Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid 3 and now this hitting the 3DS, the platform is making a case for itself being a great stage for legacy games. I am buying the system just for these re-releases.

Do you play Garry’s Mod on Steam? Are you getting the error, “Unable to shade polygon normals”? Well, if you raised your hand to the second question, thank you for admitting that you pirated the game. That’s right, Garry Newman, the games creator enabled the error to sniff out the thieves. The error code that is shown is actually the user’s Steam ID number. This allows Valve the opportunity to ban anyone who posts about it in the Steam forums. I find this to be extremely clever, but I am sure the pirate community is pissed.
