Follow Friday: Aubrey Norris @Chupacaubrey

If you’re a Twitter user, then I’m sure by now you’ve seen the weekly #ff hashtag show up.  The tag, which is a shortened form of #followfriday, indicates the Tweeter’s (Twitterer? Tweetist?) showcase of recommended people to follow.  Our team at SideQuesting follows several great people in the gaming industry, from journalists to developers, critics to other gamers, and we’d love to share these folks with you.

Each week, we’ll plan on selecting one interesting person in the industry to follow on Twitter for a variety of reasons.  Consider this a momentous occasion for an individual who’s only use of Twitter is to get Lady Gaga’s attention or who #just #figured #out #what #hashtags #are.  Either way, it’s a timely reflection on society.  Consider coming back each Friday to see who gets the award.

This week’s Pulitzer goes to… Deep Silver’s Aubrey Norris.

Within the last year, I’ve looked forward to the increasingly insane press releases that show up each week from Aubrey.  At times they’ve been so confusing that I didn’t know if they were meant to give me information about a specific game, a lobotomy, or a drug-infused orgy.  Whatever the intended effect, they’ve certainly raised the awareness of games like Two Worlds II and Dead Island.  Without the almost lyrical writings of Ms Norris I doubt that these games would have had as much exposure as they did.

It probably does take a crazy person to work in PR these days.  Her personality has definitely rubbed off on other PR folks, as my inbox has become much less about bullet points and more about, well, bullets.

Her Twitter account is no less unhinged. In fact, I don’t think I’ve click through someone’s statuses as much as I have hers just to understand what the hell she’s talking about.

Yeah, it’s a lot of that.  Aubrey’s retweeted funny quotes from Peter Griffin, told us what annoying ring tones she’s purchased, and told us to take our sack out to get things done.  Heck, he Twitter name, “chupacaubrey”, may be one of the most creative I’ve ever run across.

But, in between talking like a sailor and chatting with fellow gaming industry folks, Aubrey lets her softer side sneak in.  She’s a loving wife, a caring friend, and a thoroughly enjoyable person to know.  If you’re not following her, and you’re into video games, then you’re missing out on someone who not only does her job great but but connects well with her followers.

Aubrey Norris, you’ve DONE IT.  You’ve reached the precipice, and can now retire early to live like a hobbit in the mountains.  You are The SideQuesting Follow Friday.

Let the world see your spark, or your crack, or whatever it is you plan on showing us in the dark at E3.
