According to Kevin Stevens, a security researcher, 2.2 million PSN users information is in the open. Apparently there are many rumors floating around the credit card ‘black market’ saying that a large section of the database Sony used to contain person details of users and card information was one of the sectors to be breached.
The list of names, card numbers and the security code (CVV2) are up for sale to the highest bidder. Mr. Stevens also said that the hackers tried selling the list back to Sony, but as expected, no response was to be had.
The database seems to be mostly comprised of European accounts, with over 150,000 German account holders targeted specifically. Possibly because of legal action Sony leveled against “graf_chokolo”, a German hacker.
