Let me inform you readers on what is happening with the Weekend Report: This originated as a wrap-up of the weeks biggest stories. It has since turned into more of a ‘weekend report’, as we will just mention the biggest stories from Saturday and Sunday. Those two days tend to be so light in news, that both days be wrapped up into one small post delivered through your RSS feed late Sunday night. Shall we begin?
If you haven’t been paying attention over the last few weeks, George ‘GeoHotz’ Hotz has been in a legal battle with Sony over the jailbreaking of the Playstation 3 system. Things had been even in the past, but a federal magistrate granted Sony the permission to acquire IP addresses of anybody that has visited Ol’ George’s website. Sony claims this is to see the total distribution of the jailbreak code, however:
(Legal mumbojumbo and speculation below)
Evidence found in one case is admissible in another case in federal court. Meaning, if Sony wins this trial against George Hotz and it is found to be illegal to hack a game console, Sony may be able to use this evidence found (in conjunction with other evidence) to prosecute those that have cracked the system. Alone, the IP addresses found are circumstantial, but if they find any other evidence of a guilty party, the IP address found will be a key bit of evidence as it shows the accused at the ‘scene of the crime’.
This does not mean you will be investigated if you visited the site, so don’t worry if you have

We previously reported that a Bungie MMO was on the way as an employee said one was coming at GDC last week. Being a journalist that reports the news, I posted it and even provided speculation based on the word of the Bungie employee. It turns out, though, that this man was full of shit and he was merely ‘joking’. I raised the question on Twitter: Why would a man think people would take this as a joke when games are routinely announced at the Game Developers Conference?
If you follow me on Twitter (@Ellimem) you will see me bitch about many things. One of my biggest talking points is developers and publishers crappy public relations with the press, something our industry can’t seem to get around. No matter how funny the man was trying to be, it was still an indiscretion that many, many gaming sites reported on. The man that tries warming his hands by setting his neighbors house on fire is still an arsonist.

That is all we have for you this weekend. As I said, weekends aren’t the biggest time for news to come out, especially the weekend after GDC. We hope you got your fill.
Good luck with the week!
