I haven’t started playing Minecraft yet. Yaniv, John, and Eric are knee deep in it, and have been hounding me at every opportunity to get into the SideQuesting server, but I just haven’t had the time to do it.
That might change after having listened to the official Minecraft soundtrack. Created by C418 the 24 tracks of Volume Alpha, some of which haven’t been released in the game yet, are a sublime, passive experience. It’s the epitome of video game “chill” music, perfect for me working the long hours in front of a glowing Cintiq while I pound out sketch after sketch of whatever project I’m working on at the moment. Music Critic posted a review on this amazing album and the impact that the game’s soundtrack had on many of it’s players who have seen how the game evolved.
I guess it can best be described as “soothing”, but if the thunderous rain of a billion blocks on your life is soothing then I’d hate to see “frantic”. Either way, I strongly suggest picking up this gem through any of the means provided. C418 suggests buying through Bandcamp for a measly 4 bucks (or more, if you can) to get a high-res version of the album cover, but it’s also available through iTunes for $9.99.
