The Evening Report: Pachter and the New Xbox Edition

In this week after GDC and the four days prior to PAX East we are not expecting the biggest of news stories to hit the mill. That being said, that leaves some space for some of the more…interesting stories to get some attention. Is Microsoft prepping to launch a new console, will Pachter be right for once? Who knows, but read inside to see more details and speculation.

Are you a ‘Graphics Hardware Architect’? Are you out of work? Well, if so, give Microsoft a ring and see if they have a position open for you (spoiler alert: they do). In the source link, Eurogamer does a good job breaking down what all of the technical aspects of the job are, so check it out if you are interested. I have no interest in the specifics. I only wonder when I am going to shell out some cash for a new system. With no other basis for my guess besides how the industry looks to me, I think a new Microsoft console should be out by Christmas of 2013. Agree or disagree?

Well, Veho came up with a new gamepad/chatpad controller that looks like it wouldn’t be cumbersome at all.

I’m kidding.

Michael Pachter makes a living at Wedbush Securities speculating on the movement of the games industry. His job his to analyze the money of all of the companies and give his best informed guess on all things financial. So what does the oft-correct Pachter say this time? That the 360 will drop in price by E3 and the PS3 and Wii will follow suit not soon after. If he says it, I will believe him. It does make sense as it has been about 18 months for the PS3 and 360’s previous price drop.

We go from prices possibly being cut, to prices being ‘raised’. Sony announced last Thursday that they would be lowering the price of the PSP Go to a slightly less ridiculous price of $150, but as it turns out, they were just joshing us. The price on the official Sony webstore has the cost of the Go up to the stupid, stupid price of $200. If you buy it at this price, you never have the right to call something overpriced again. Does Sony not realize the 3DS is being released (at $250) in about three weeks?
