The Evening Report: Not the NPDs Edition

Every time I try to write an article, editorial or interview base, I struggle to find a starting off point. Now that I have that out of the way, I have several…intriguing stories that you guys may find interesting from the day in gamer news.

My jumping off point is going to be a depressing one, and that is Harmonix is laying off staffers to “align with their current product development plans”. Considering their recent departure from Viacom, one can not say that this news is not unexpected. Harmonix has yet to announce their next game, but knowing the quality of the studio, we are very hopeful for the future of Harmonix. Source: Giant Bomb

So, does anyone think Red Dead Redemption was successful (sure, we have proof of that, just play along)? Does anyone think it would be smart for a franchise set in the wild west to piggyback off of that success and put out a game just one year after Read Dead Redemption? Yes? Well, you may think that, but Ubisoft and Techland had different things in mind when they announced Call of Juarez: The Cartel. Reportedly, the game will no longer take place in the wild west, but instead, will be set in present day Los Angeles. Source: G4TV

This is the place where I would drop in some stats from the 2010 NPDs, but considering there are no longer numbers associated with the games, I won’t do that. Note: People buy Call of Duty games. Source: Gamasutra

What happens when you combine the DS with an Android smartphone? You get the Kyocera Echo. This Sprint phone is sexy looking. This ‘phone’ is sporting dual 3.5 inch screens that can flip open and form a tablet-like device. It even has the ability to run to different apps at the same time, one on each screen. If I was fellow SideQuester Mike Wehner, I would be able to tell you why this phone will be amazing or completely suck. However, I am not, and I do not know nearly as much about tech as he does, so please, send any questions to him. Source: Engadget
