The Top Ten Stories on SideQuesting in 2009

It’s been a terrific first year here at SideQuesting dawt com.  We’ve gone from a trio of goofy gaming enthusiasts to… a virtual herd of goofy gaming enthusiasts!

While the most important aspect of our site is our interaction with our community, readers, and gaming drug pushers we also dabble in the occasional article and news bite.  This post will serve as your handy guide to our most popular posts of the year based on the amount of clicks and regularity of reads.  Not interestingly, our older posts tend to bubble up to the top as they have been collecting the most views, but some newer posts are in there as well.

Shall we begin?

10.  District 9: The New Trailer

We were treated to the full-length trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s epic movie back in July.  Fitting, since the Blu Ray version just came out as well.

9. Google Announces Chrome OS!

Also in July, Google first revealed that they were in fact working on an operating system and we were the first to talk about the gaming possibilities held within.

8. Redesigning: The Wii

When we asked our readers about how they would change the Nintendo Wii, we received a flood of comments and suggestions.  This post from September summarizes all of their hopes and dreams into a few hundred words.

7. Gran Turismo 5 to Release Dec 29th?

Also in September, we were kinda-sorta intrigued that Gran Turismo 5 was still showing up on Amazon’s release calendar for Dec 29th.  That would be this week.  And, that’s not happening… at least, we don’t think it is.

6. Billy Mays’ Effect on the Gaming World

The biggest celebrity death of the year occurred in June.  Yup, Billy Mays.  Mr Mays had a ton of geek cred, so we took some time to honor the blue-shirted hero.  * As a side note, his staple blue shirt was nearly identical to the one I wore while working at Best Buy back in the day.  CreeeeEEEeepy!

5. Machinarium Trailer is Delightful

When this first trailer for Machinarium debuted in August, we were instantly in love. And guess what? We still are!

4. The Uncharted 2 Tweet Spam Begins [UPDATE]

We like to believe that we had a little something to do with helping change the minds of Naughty Dog by reporting on the incredible amount of Twitter spam being generated by Uncharted 2 reviewers.  Also, we still love Uncharted 2.

3. The Games of 2010: The Best Year Ever?

One of our biggest articles of the year was about the future!  Our incredible list of games being released in 2010 revealed that we’d be out of money by the end of February, spinning the economy back into the gutter and bringing down home values yet again.  Or, something like that.

2. SideQuesting: Omegle

The meme that was all the rage back in April, Omegle held our attention for all of 4 hours.  Apparently people still continue to use it as it’s our #2 article of the year, consistently receiving big daily hits.

And at the top of our list…

1. Review: Mafia Wars on iPhone & Facebook

Mafia Wars.  Merely mentioning the “game” is enough to draw thousands of hits to a random article by any of the millions of players wishing to know the latest hints, tips, and tricks for the phenom.  Perhaps that’s why this article, one of our first reviews for the site back in April, continues to get massive views every day.

There you have it!  What will 2010 bring for SideQuesting?  Who knows.  Perhaps a Farmville review, or an article on 2011’s big games?  Stick tuned to find out!
