#gamechat number 1 is in the books (read the synopsis and transcript after the break). Tuesday night, we host our second edition of #gamechat. The topic of discussion: “Is the FPS Dead?” We’ll chat about how the genre has changed over the last few years, becoming more RPG-lite and less run-n-gun. We’ll talk Halo, CoD, and more recent games like Fallout 3. Join us!

Synopsis of last week’s #gamechat for 7/7: How different should a sequel be from the original game?
As the title implies, the question about how different a sequel should be in relation to its previous/original game was the topic of discussion. With the recent news of Left4Dead2 (and the fans of Left4Dead nearly rioting at the thought of a new game in the series) and the continuous “tweaks” to games like Madden, we discussed whether game sequels should be considerably different or not.
User joeltng felt that games with minimal changes should be released as enhanced DLC packages. Many of us also felt that these incremental sequels should include cross-sequel multiplayer gaming, with the option to play against users of both games on shared maps.
Halo 3:ODST was discussed as to whether it should be DLC or a full sequel, with RyanGan speaking to the latter. Finally, Burnout: Paradise was discussed as a game that was able to sustain itself over a lengthy period of time without its content needing to be placed into a sequel.
