In the last few years, browser-based gaming has evolved from simple “shoot the monkey” Flash games to full-on experiences like Quake. With development tools becoming more accessible and affordable, and schools offering more courses on game development, virtually any variety of game can be created for mass consumption. One genre that continues to evolve online is the strategic gaming experience.
Sauma Entertainment of Finland has taken on the challenge to create a Massively Mutliplayer Online browser-based strategic war game with Hours of War. Strategic theater is about to get much more involving. You see, HoW isn’t just a typical strategy game. The MMO factor is coupled with a highly detailed and deep war management system, from covering large invading armies to micro-managing small groups and individual units… of live players. Commanders take opposing sides on historic battles as short as 2 hours or as long as 3 weeks, or custom matches can be created.
HoW is currently in Alpha/Beta testing, with a planned release of Fall 2009. A monthly subscription will be associated with playing the game, with the only requirement being that we have some newer version of Flash installed on our browsers.
