The console wars are back!
I mean, I *guess* this could be something that someone remembers? We’ve had retro mini consoles pop up en masse over the years, especially since the NES Classic and SNES Classic took store shelves by storm, but now it’s just getting ridiculous.
Konami took to the virtual stage at E3 this week to reveal that it will be bringing out its own nostalgia console, the TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine) Mini. The device is just the next of these consoles announced, arriving with a collection of its own games. The following have been announced for the US iteration:
- R-Type
- New Adventure Island
- Ninja Spirit
- Y’s Book I & II
- Dungeon Explorer
- Alien Crush
The Japanese PC Engine and the EU’s CoreGrafx PC Engine will have their own lineups. The PC Engine:
- Super Star Soldier
- Bonk’s Adventure
- Y’s Book I & II
- Dracula X
- Dungeon Explorer
- Kung Fu Master
And the CoreGrafx lineup:
- R-Type
- New Adventure Island
- Ninja Spirit
- Y’s Book I & II
- Dungeon Explorer
- Alien Crush
Noted features include quick saves, display modes, and ability for 5 friends to play together with a multitap (sold separately). The console will come with just one controller when it launches “soon.”
