E3 2014: Dead Island 2 hacks its way into our hearts [Preview]

Everyone remember the incredible trailer of the first Dead Island game where it looked so amazing that we got all hyped on getting the game? Yup! But then we also remember how it was received by critics in the gaming community. Nope!

After meeting up with Deep Silver at E3 I can safely say that Dead Island 2, developed by Yager, is going to be the Dead Island that everyone has been hoping for.

In Dead Island 2, you are in sunny California, where paradise meets hell, and you get to explore iconic locations in one of the most beautiful areas in the world, all the way from the Golden Gate to Venice Beach.

There are four dedicated classes that you get to choose from, offering a different experience from one player to the next. The four classes that are immune to the zombie virus (and are therefore eager to run towards the crowd of zombies) are:

  • Hunter
  • Berserker
  • Bishop
  • Speeder

Each one has their own unique skills and abilities to bring to the table in order to survive the new “everyday norm” they may face.

It focuses on “seamless” zombie fun with co-op, where you can have up to 8 players joining in and out of your game.

Also new in Dead Island 2 is a system in place where no two zombies will look alike. That will be interesting when there is a large horde of them on the screen at once, and we can test how different they actually are.

In the hands-off preview we also got to meet Max and Rick Furry, a new pair of characters. You can say that Max is the leader of this group, but he is not alone in this ride as he has Furry, his right-hand man cat, on this journey. The best part? I learned today because Yager wanted Furry to act natural that they are claiming that he is the first cat to be motion captured. THE FIRST MOTION CAPTURED CAT! Meow that’s impressive!

The crafting system has been improved to include motorized weapons, ranging from grinders to electric machetes. The work bench has also been updated so you do not need to be at one all the time to improve your weapon.

Dead Island 2 is slated for Spring of 2015 and will be available for PlayStation 4, XBox One, and the PC.

We’ll have more on it as news breaks like a zombie plague.
