The annual Madden NFL Cover Vote finishes up tonight. I know: it’s been a long, arduous journey to discover just who is the best NFL player ever ever ever, and one that can only be justified by posing on the cover of a video game. Thank the 7 gods that this incredible moment is upon us.
Okay, maybe it’s not really the greatest thing ever. But, to some of the younger NFL players it is a sort of PR justification. This year is special: it’s the 25th anniversary of the franchise, and so the company has held a special “Old School vs New School” tournament facing off legends versus active players. The finalists are two amazing runnigbacks, the Detroit Lions’ Barry Sanders (Old School) and the Minnesota Vikings’ Adrian Peterson (New School). Voting is still open, and the winner will be announced at 8PM EST tonight on ESPN 2. Should Sanders win it’ll be his second time on the cover, and the 2nd Lion in a row to grace the coveted “honor”. Peterson had an incredible years last year, one of the greatest ever for a RB, and won the league’s MVP award over Peyton Manning.
Last year proved that there’s no such thing as a Madden Curse, so Peterson (probably) won’t end up on the receiving end of any wild injury.
I’m a diehard Lion fan, so Sanders will get my vote. Peterson will be tough to beat, though. Here are some incredible video highlights from these two superstars:
